Venous Insufficiency

Venous insufficiency is when blood is no longer traveling efficiently up to the heart because of veins that have become dysfunctional. Instead of pushing the blood only upward, the weak valves allow blood to travel backwards as well as creating enlarged and stretched veins. Venous insufficiency causes painful symptoms and can even result in a blood clot known as deep vein thrombosis.
